Step 1 - Joining the Housing Register

You can apply for properties in the Norwich City area through Norwich Home Options if you are:

  • Registered on the Norwich Home Options housing register.
  • Are a tenant of one of our partner Housing Associations/Landlords and have registered for a transfer.

Once you are accepted on to the housing register we will tell you:

  • Your housing application number
  • The band your application has been placed in and your priority date. Click Prioritising Applications for more information.
  • The number of bedrooms you are entitled to.

You must tell us if there are any changes in your circumstances so that we can reassess your application and, if necessary, make changes to your band and priority date.

Property Size and Type

You will be assessed by the Norwich Home Options team to determine what size of property you qualify for based on the size of your household.

You will be told your band and the size of property you are entitled to bid for when you register.  For example, a single person would be eligible to bid for one, and some two, bedroom properties, but would not be able to bid for a three bedroom property.

If you have children, the size and type of property that your household can apply for is decided by applying the following rules:

  • A girl and boy can share a bedroom until one of them is six years old.
  • Two girls or two boys can share a bedroom until one of them is 16 years old.
  • Children who are 10 years or under need access to a garden on the same level as their home.
